Make (on any computer) & Save Web Page to YOUR folder on the computer, personal.ecu.edu,

1. Make a web page by either of the following methods::
2. Save the web page and the graphics that you want displayed in your page into the same folder on your own computer and also save a copy of this folder on the web server. See the example on how to save to personal.ecu.edu.
The browser, Internet Explorer (IE) may be used as the ftp software as described for our example.

Better ftp software, using encryption,  is available for download on the web.  Google "free ftp software" and download software that is truly free.  Be careful--some sites are bogus and will give you a virus.    "SmartFTPClient" is good free  ftp software for your PC.

    1. Open IE.  Into the address text area, type ftp://personal.ecu.edu, and then press the enter or return key (or click GO).
    2. You will see a login popup screen.  Use your Piratemail ID and Password to login.
    3. After successful login, you will now be in your own folder, named with your Piratemail ID, that is stored on the machine, personal.ecu.edu.
      1. You will see a browser window with nothing displayed if you have never saved anything to your folder on the personal.ecu.edu computer.  (If you have saved something there, you will see the files and folders.
      2. To store MyPage.html and Party.gif into the folder, Assignment_1, do the following.
      • In the ftp window, right click--> new--> folder.  Name the folder Assignment_1.  A folder icon should appear with this name in the ftp window.
      • Click on the folder icon to open it.  You should see nothing on the file list.
      • Next, highlight on your desktop the icons for the files, MyPage.html and Party.gif.
      • Click and drag these to the  ftp window  (which is open to the folder of interest, Assignment_1).  You should see these two files listed in the  ftp window.
      • URL: Suppose your PIRATE ID is abc0101.  The URL to your web page will then be
http://personal.ecu.edu/abc0101/Assignment_1/MyPage.html
