An Invitation to Study At ECU

Computer scientists are problem solvers, trained to design and implement software solutions to problems. It is extraordinary but true that the tools, techniques and science of problem solving on a computer can be applied to nearly any area of interest. This means that you will find computer scientists working with physicists, chemists, biologists, engineers, medical doctors, business executives, and persons from many other professional and academic areas of human endeavor. This is part of what makes it so exciting to be a computer scientist.

The Computer Science Department at ECU is a great place to study computer science. We strive to give you a quality education. Our undergraduate program offers both a traditional (B.S.) and an applied (B.A.) degree in computer science. In the applied degree you focus on integrating your study of computer science with an area of interest such as the high technology, business or healthcare fields. We also offer masters programs in computer science and in software engineering.

The Department of Computer Science encourages students, starting in their freshman year, to participate in ECU's Cooperative Education/Intern program, and offers academic credit for qualifying co-op/internships in the computer science field. Using co-op and internships, students can integrate classroom study with professional experiences in the major. Opportunities include alternating semesters of full time work and full time study, part-time work while taking classes, summer work, and international work. We offer you a variety of choices that will allow you to graduate from our program with the professional and technical skills needed to begin a satisfying and lucrative career. If you are interested in studying computer science, then I invite you to come and see what we have to offer you.
