  • Read Section 4.1.
    • Note that we did not cover the inclusion-exculsion principle in class, but it is not too hard to learn on your own.
  • Read Section 4.3.
    • Note that we did not (and will not) use the notation P(n, r) for permutations.  This idea is just a special case of the product rule.
    • Note also that the book uses the notation C(n, r) for the choose numbers.  We used the preferable notation n choose r.
    • An r-permutation refers to a selection and arrangement of r objects
  • Read Section 4.4
  • Read Section 4.5
    • Skip the section "Combinations with Repetition"
